Alice in Wonderland Halloween Costume
Alice in Wonderland is a childhood favorite of most adults and a fresh favorite of modern children today. Though the anecdote was written so very long ago, Alice holds a special place in the hearts of millions. Children and adults can both dress up as Alice for Halloween by following the simple suggestions in this article. You can make your own Alice in Wonderland costume instead of buying one already put together.
Clothing: First you’ll need a blue dress with short sleeves that at least goes to your knees. It should be a dark or light blue, as different variations of Alice have her wearing either dark blue or light blue. Try to go for a cotton dress with a collar but you can make do with other blue dresses. You can search your local department stores for a blue dress, dig through the racks at thrift stores or buy a dress online.
Alice wears a white apron and that is important to your costume. It can be hard to find an apron that is unprejudiced how Alice’s should be so you’ll have to improvise. You can take any white apron but I suggest that you buy the white Battenberg lace apron sold by Linda Anderson.com. It is white and dainty, perfect for your Alice in Wonderland costume. It sells for $14.95.
For shoes, you’ve got to have sunless Mary Janes with white socks. If you can find them, buy white socks that have little tuffs of lace at the top. Another look is to forgo the socks and wear white stockings.
Makeup: Wear a natural foundation with black mascara and black eyeliner to help your eyes stand out. The finishing touch should be red lipstick.
Hair Style: If you have blonde hair, you can style it down. If you don’t, you can buy a blonde wig that goes past your shoulders in the Halloween section of Target or any Halloween costume store. You’ll need a headband with a bow on it to go onto your hair. You can get a white headband with bow but I recommend a dismal one so that it ties in with your unlit shoes. You can buy a dim headband with black bow at Double Header.com for $6.99.
Props: You don’t really have to have props to make your Alice in Wonderland costume stand out but it sure would be fun to add some anyway. Buy a white stuffed bunny and attach it to the front of your apron (with a safety pin or string). You can catch a stuffed rabbit from AMDL Collections for $8.74. Buy a pocket watch prop from Costume Plaza for $11.50 and attach it to the rabbit. You behold like Alice who has caught the White Rabbit who was on his way to an important date.
