The famous Disney classic Alice in Wonderland has been re-introduced to the big screen not only in 3D but by the famous but very twisted and creative director Tim Burton. Starring Johnny Depp, Mia Wasikowska, and Helena Bonham Carter it is a film that has been highly anticipated since it was announced. Still in theaters, you don’t have the ability to determine this as a possibility to watch movies online but once it is on DVD you do.

Burton has always been a source of intrigue with his directing style and his unexpected movements. Alice is yet another one of these cases but the direction he is headed appears to be very cloudy. Is he trying to fabricate it a kid friendly or an adult film? Is it supposed to be a remake of the original or a sequel to the classic we’ve all grown to like? His confusion is brought directly to the screen in the gain of Alice in Wonderland. The 3-D affects have also been lackluster in their appeal not really bringing as much as they can to the screen.

Alice in Wonderland, written by Lewis Carroll, is the epic of a young girl who is still trying to find direction in a world that is bulky of many adults whose maturity is in seek information from. The film places Alice at the ripe age of 19 to appeal to the teen and young adult market. The film is introduced with Alice and her father discussing how Alice is “bonkers” for having imaginations of an underground kingdom. Then it jumps to the unique time period when Alice is supposed to be in an arranged marriage, instructed by her mum played by Lindsay Duncan. She takes a runt to herself before diving into a rabbit hole which spirals into Burton’s fantasy world.

In typical Burton fashion, creatures populate the scene from insects to dragons and exotic plant life along with hundreds of gargoyles to manufacture a truly outrageous set.

The characters in Burton’s world are as always expected, quite eccentric. Johnny Depp plays the Mad Hatter donning a neon-orange wig and large emerald colored eyes enhanced by computer animation. His role is filled with a mixture of insanity. Along with Depp are Helena Bonham Carter who is Her Scarlet Highness who is cast as a small frame and a colossal balloon like head and White Queen who is played by Anne Hathaway and appears to be quite corpse like, not surprising coming from the great Tim Burton.

The true gem here is Mia’s role as Alice. She is able to jump help and forth from the childish portrayal to the woman who she is becoming. She is able to shine through the craziness and brings a new direction and emotion to her role.

The great majority of the movie is focusing on the wait before the fight begins and the scene with the fight leaves a dry taste in your mouth that requires something strong to wash down. The film has the ability to demolish the original storyline by shredding it to pieces and wrecking the “coming of age” mentality that this story should have accompanied it. With a number of movies available, when you determine that you want to watch movies online keep Alice in mind but don’t go in with huge hopes.
